If you’re at a loss for what to buy the paddler in your life here’s a couple of ideas from the staff at NWOC to get you started:
Mesh Gear Bag
Great for carrying accessories both wet and dry. Duffel style with a shoulder strap is especially nice. This is one of those pieces of gear you don't realize how much of a difference it makes until you have one. A great gift for kayakers, canoeists, and standup paddlers.
Prices range from $25-$135
Dry Bags
Chances are most paddlers already have some, but you can never have too many. 10 Liters is a great size that has just enough room for essentials but still fits in and out of smaller kayak hatches easily. Bags with clear windows make finding items much easier which is a great feature that often gets overlooked.
Prices range from $25-$50.
Deck Light
A good option for the paddler that has everything, a deck mounted light is great for increasing visibility during night or evening paddles. The higher up the light is from the deck, the more visibility it provides. I’ve gotten multiple compliments on mine from Seattle Harbor Patrol and Argosy Captains.
Prices range from $40-$100
PFD Strobe
Something often overlooked by all but the most serious coastal paddlers. Having a strobe on your PFD greatly increases visibility in rescue situations.
Prices range from $15-$55
Kayak Keychain
Mini sea kayak, SUP, or whitewater kayaks, perfect for the paddler who has everything.
Price $6.95
Pogies
Also called paddle mitts or mambas, these are what all of us here at NWOC wear to keep our hands cozy and warm when the temperature drops. No need to worry about buying the wrong size, these can be paired with gloves for truly frigid paddling outings.
Prices range from $45-$60
Kayak Lock
Lasso style locks work for securing kayaks on vehicle racks as well as on storage racks.
Prices range from $50-$90
Yearly Rental Pass
Here is an opportunity for frequent kayak & standup paddle board (SUP) paddlers to reduce rental costs during our regular hours of operation. The pass is valid for a one, two or three person kayak, or one SUP. We are on the water, with docks right outside our office door. From there you can explore the beautiful Seattle waterways in a kayak, or surf Lake Union on a standup paddle board (SUP). More info here.
Price range $299-$399
Still overwhelmed or don't know what to get?
Get a gift card to their local paddle shop! If you don’t want to stress about getting them something they already have or won’t use, let them pick something out from their local retailer. For an added touch pair with something like a t-shirt or hat from the shop as well.
